MSP8: Sharing Smart Compositions

Ulead have now provided us with a tutorial about how to create a Smart Composition
http://www.ulead.com/learning/msp/msp8_05_01.htm
Firstly please download the DVP file provided by Ulead here:
http://www.ulead.com/learning/msp/image ... roject.dvp
If you now create a Smart composition with the file as it is currently provided the resulting *.exe file will be 34MB in size which is somewhat large for sharing.
The purpose of this post is to show how you can still share this same composition but vastly reduce the file size so that it can now be considered shareable over the internet.
First load the sample project.dvp provided by Ulead.
Now click Project | Project Settings and look at the part that tells you iles used?and you will see the following:
c:\\program files\\ulead systems\\ulead mediastudio pro 8.0\\samples\\video\\video_2.mpg
c:\\program files\\ulead systems\\ulead mediastudio pro 8.0\\samples\\video\\do02_s.mpg
c:\\program files\\ulead systems\\ulead mediastudio pro 8.0\\samples\\audio\\do01_a.mpa
You will notice that two MPG files have been used
video_2.mpg
do02_s.mpg
It is these MPG files that cause the bloat.
Now simply replace these files with color clips. Replace all instances of
video_2.mpg with a red color clip
do02_s.mpg with a blue color clip
The next piece of bloat is the audio track. Replace this with a smart sound quick track of the same length
Now run the smart compositor designer tool and you get a file which is only 103 KB
Copy available here:
http://www.steve-jones.pwp.blueyonder.c ... tcolor.exe
If you run and insert this copy you will find it in the Sports category.
To prove it works just the same, after installing this composition, run the Smart Compositor and replace those color clips with their original MPG files and you will see the result is exactly the same.
OK so we got our 34MB down to 103KB but we can do better than that!
If you now navigate to
C:\\Program Files\\Ulead Systems\\Ulead MediaStudio Pro 8.0\\uct_plug
You will see your new composition listed as a uct file.
Mine was called JustColor.uct and is 18KB
The next bit is a little harder to find but you will see in that same directory a number of sub-directories with names like
00B7AB456215105AB51DA4D8ED11AFDA
You have to check each one until you find the one that contains your files.
The easiest way to identify yours is to look at the time and date modified and find the ones that match your uct file and now create a zip file. This got the above down to 11KB

Remember that the end user will NOT be using YOUR video/audio files they will be replacing them with their own.
