Girls, Girls, Girls!!!
The Story begins on Saturday 9 June 2012 when Alison admitted into the
Maternity Ward. High Blood pressure. one of the babies heads in the down
position. Blood in urine.
It was thought she may have a dangerous condition Pre-eclampsia Alison was at 28 weeks pregnancy. This was later confirmed to be the case.
Ali's waters broke just before 10pm Wednesday 4 July 2012.
She was rushed into theatre just after midnight. There were tense moments when the staff told Christopher they were searching for the heartbeats and then our waiting game lasted for about 20 minutes before it was announced both girls born and crying!
The smaller child Amelia Suzanne was born at 0013 am. and weighed in at 1.09 KG (2 lb 6.44 oz) and is doing well.
The larger of the two Megan Abigail was born at 0015 am. and weighed in at 1.56 KG (3 lb 7.02 oz) but is currently receiving CPAP (Continuous positive airway pressure) treatment.
CPAP may be used to treat pre-term infants whose lungs have not yet fully developed. For example, physicians may use CPAP to treat infants who have respiratory distress syndrome or bronchopulmonary dysplasia. In some pre-term infants whose lungs haven't fully developed, CPAP improves survival and decreases the need for steroid treatment for their lungs (in layman's terms - an oxygen mask)
Meanwhile Alison is also doing well but receiving morphine for pain.
