Following the rescue of Archie from the house fire (see entry below) it transpires that his original owner was an old lady who had to move into a home but was unable to take her pet with her. The Pet was therefore handed over to her daughter - the female who was sadly killed in the house fire. The daughter had only had Archie a matter of weeks, a few months at the most and so the dead woman's two teenage girls had no emotional attachments to the dog. The dead woman's family were going to try and find a new home for Archie. Due to this Archie has now become a part of our family and gets on perfectly with Annie and Lucy. Archie was taken to the Vets for a check up and although obviously overweight the vet found that he has conjunctivitis for which he is now being given eye drops, also a slight heart murmur. He has also been given a course of tablets to clear a possible throat infection from the smoke inhalation. We have also discovered that the pads of both hind feet have abrasions and so we will be doing what we can to clear that up.
Having been previously chipped by his original owner we were able to establish that Archie was born during 2006 and so is roughly the same age as Annie and Lucy.Presently Archie is only eating one meal per day - at teatime. Despite being given "breakfast" he does not eat any even if we try to feed him by hand. We have also found out that his previous owners used to feed him chocolate (poisonous to dogs!) Once we took ownership of Archie we went out and bought him his own collar, lead and bedding. We saw an immediate change where he knew these were his and he appeared more happier and lively.
